Utilising close readings of the texts and study of physical artifacts, students will begin to understand the different themes, elements, and details of the myths studied, be able to discuss the role of mythology within Greek and Roman society, and provide analysis of the differences between Greek and Roman depictions of common myths. ![]() Throughout the course, we will examine divine and heroic myths of both Greek and Roman society, examining the different ways of interpreting their significance and function within literature, society, religion, and history. We will examine how Greek and Roman sources treated common myths, the contexts in which the myths were produced, and how they helped the Greeks and Romans to conceive of their place within their world.
